The B.C Construction Safety Alliance (BCCSA) in conjunction with the B.C Ready-Mixed Concrete Association (BCRMCA) are working towards the development of uniform safety standards for competencies in concrete pump operation and a certified testing regime in the province.
As a comparison to Australia, the Canada Standards Association has developed an operator qualification and conduct rules for the operation of concrete booms but has no uniform certification or compliance regime. Where WorksafeBC has labelled 'concrete operators in its list of high-risk construction jobs' there is clearly a need for the development of these compliance mechanisms.
Many aspects of what the BCCSA are implementing are currently being investigated by the CPAA, in partciular uniform or National Guidelines for the concrete pmping industry.
