As of Friday 18th July 2014, 12 new Codes of Practice were implemented to improve safety in NSW workplaces. These new codes are part of the harmonization of the 2012 Work Health & Safety legislation by seeking to replace a number of those pre-existing, including:
- First aid in the workplace
- Construction work
- Preventing falls in housing construction
- Managing electrical risks in the workplace
- Managing risks of hazardous chemicals in the workplace
- Managing the risks of plant in the workplace
- Safe design of structures
- Excavation work
- Demolition work
- Welding processes
- Spray painting and powder coating
- Abrasive blasting.
To avoid conflict with the 12 latest Codes, the Minister has revoked 5 Codes of Practice from 2001. These include:
- Excavation work
- Safe Work on Roofs Part 2-residential buildings
- Work in Hot and Cold Environments
- Amenities for Construction Work
- Prevention of Occupational Overuse Syndrome
