Everything we do here at the CPAA is about concrete! We love the stuff! So when we find the original document of the creation of Portland Cement, we go a little crazy. Patented by Joseph Aspdin in the year “One thousand eight hundred and twenty four” (1824) the two-page document outlines the key ingredients and processes needed to make “Artificial Stone”.

If it wasn’t for Aspdin we may be building skyscrapers out of brinks and mortar. Some of us forget how utilised concrete is, but concrete is used twice as much as any other building material. Fact: We lay down three tons of concrete for each person on Earth, annually. At that rate, it would take 100 years to lay a 2-centimeter layer across the entire face of the moon.
