Chris Turner, State Inspector with SafeWork NSW updated the Concrete Pumping Association of Australia recently about impending plant item registration changes with effect from the 1 January 2018. SafeWork NSW invited to CPAA to advise its members of these impending changes.
Since moving to the Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws NSW has maintained item registration as if under the former Occupational Health and Safety laws. This situation was to expire on 1 January 2018.
Safework NSW has decided to continue item registration as if under the former Occupational Health and Safety laws until 1 January 2020 except for passenger ropeways and water slides which will not require item registration, as they would not require registration under the WHS laws.
An amendment to the WHS Regulation 2017 was gazetted on 15 December 2017 giving effect to this by adding subclauses (2) & (3) to clause 702A. The amendment should be incorporated into the consolidated version of the WHS Regulation on the NSW Legislation website www.legislation.nsw.gov.au
The timing of this decision will result in delayed posting of renewal applications for item registrations that will expire in January & February 2018.
As this could made it difficult for people to renew their item registration by the expiry date SafeWork NSW has extended these item registrations for 60 calendar days. A letter confirming this and providing further details will be included with the relevant renewal notices.
This information is available on the item registration page of our website www.safework.nsw.gov.au
