Managing workplace hazards in the construction industry must be a top priority for all involved, every day with a working environment that is constantly changing. It's not uncommon for multiple contractors to be working alongside one another, not to mention the unprecedented occurrences that come along with human error.
With time, training, awareness and advancements in technology, fatality rates have improved though nevertheless, numbers remain high in this industry. Knowing this, construction workers must be up-to-date on recent events, practices and how to prevent future fatalities. SafeWork NSW has several initiatives to make sure construction workers in NSW are as safe as they can be whilst at work. The Incident Animation feature on SafeWork NSW's website is one initiative that aims to assist with the prevention of future incidents. The learning aid assists with the visualisation of events- allowing viewers an insight into how the incident occurred, rather than just hearing about it.
The Concrete Pumping Association of Australia highly encourages its members to take advantage of these resources and make sure awareness is raised surrounding significant safety issues. Safework NSW has recently uploaded a new animation surrounding horizontal directional drilling that may be the catalyst for uncovering some potential improvement areas at your worksite if you haven't already had a look at it.
