The Concrete Pumping Association of Australia would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family & friends of Mr. Brian Callaghan of Callaghan Concrete Pumps. Brian was not only the catalyst for forming the CPAA (and its Founding President) but he was also awarded a Life Membership.
Mr. Don Tolson (fellow CPAA Life Member) shared a touching tribute to his friend, Brian.
It is with great sadness to learn about the death of Brian on the night of May 19th at 11:45pm. He fought his failing health for some time in a gallant and dignified way referring to his hydraulic pump (heart) as not being able to be tweaked for any further performance. Our sincerest condolences go to his wife Helen, children and grandchildren, to whom he meant so much.
Brian was an icon and inspiration to many, he achieved great things not only in Concrete Pumping, but also in motor racing as well. He was also a very secret charitable person who helped many people in his life and did not expect any recognition in return. Brian ran a fleet of almost 30 concrete pumps, approximately one-quarter of the total boom pumps in Australia at the time.
His understanding of hydraulics was second to none. He built several concrete pumps, improving the systems and helping to develop the open circuit hydraulics used on most modern pumps.
Being his major opposition in the Concrete Pumping Industry for many years, I have only the sincere deepest respect and admiration for Brian.
We wish his family solace in this sad time.
